Conservation is only as effective as the stakeholders who are engaged in it, and Indigenous peoples and people of color historically have been excluded from the conversation. The Salazar Center is committed to creating a space where a more inclusive set of constituents can contribute to the conversation that we hope will drive a nature-positive future. Thanks to generous support from our partners and donors, the Center is pleased to offer several options to support the attendance of those with financial barriers to registration or travel.

The application period has closed. Applicants will be contacted by the Salazar Center directly.

Conditions of financial support

The Salazar Center can offer full registration and/or up to $500 for travel support to eligible applicants. To receive support for conference attendance, applicants must be able to attend both days of the conference on October 11 and 12 in Denver, Colorado.

An application does not guarantee support as we anticipate the need is greater than the pool of funds available. To help maximize the reach of these funds, please apply for only what you require to attend the Symposium.

The Salazar Center will be reimbursing travel costs following the conference, requiring recipients to provide upfront costs for their travel. If this is a barrier to your attendance, please let us know in the application form.

Who should apply

We encourage applicants from historically underserved groups in terms of gender, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, ability/disability, and socioeconomic background. Students are encouraged to explore support options from their university before applying, but are still eligible for support if needed. Additionally, organizations with financial constraints are eligible to apply for support, and we encourage Indigenous practitioners and those serving in the field of environmental justice to apply.

Applicants based in or near Denver, Colorado are eligible for conference registration support. Travel stipends will be prioritized for those traveling from out of the state who could otherwise not attend.

Timeline

  • Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until funds run out.
  • Applications are due by July 31, 2023 to be eligible for support.
  • Applicants must confirm their acceptance of the award by August 30, 2023
